We have had a single barn owl creeching on numerous nights this week. -----Original Message----- From: Walter Ellison [mailto:rossgull@CROSSLINK.NET] Sent: Wednesday, January 15, 2003 9:45 AM To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM Subject: [MDOSPREY] Two owls are now Atlas "safe" Hi All, I wish to remind everybody who might have a hooting Great Horned or Barred owl in their neighborhood that the former hooter has been safely countable as a possible (X) since 15 December, and that as of today the latter owl is also "safe" to count as an atlas record. The owls can be upgraded to probable (T) if you continue to hear them on territory for over 5 days, or if you hear birds hooting in duets or competitively. To obtain a complete as possible map for each of these night birds with early nesting seasons we need your reports from specific locations (so they can be mapped). Because computer atlas data entry is currently off line for routine maintenance and debugging until early February I would appreciate it very much if those of you fortunate enough to have owls would take the time to place them on a map and report them to your county coordinators as incidental observations. Thank you for your help.
