In Claudia Wilds book, she mentions that when the Potomac freezes over we can expect fish kills and lots of gulls at Hains Point. I was out at Gravelly Point today and observed that most of the Potomac is frozen with a few open water spots. Since I haven't been birding seriously since the last time the Potomac froze, could I get opinions on the best gull quest tactics around DC? I thought about heading there today, but begged off to stay away from the protest crowds. Nothing exciting viewed from Gravelly - Canadas, Mallards, a few Amer. Coots and a few gulls. Same for the open water spots on the Potomac.
