I second Chris' observations. I was at the lighthouse in Havre de Grace about 2:30 this afternoon. Out on the open water of the bay, I could see thousands of gulls flying around. Closer in, in the Susquehanna River, there were thousands of Common Mergansers feeding, flying, loafing on the ice. I saw one female/immature Common Merganser come up with a big fish I am sure it could not swallow. It may not have had a chance however as a Herring Gull started harrassing it. It dove a couple of times and came back up with the fish but then disappeared around a bulkhead, so I did not see the outcome. Also saw most of the species that Chris listed. If anyone wants to come observe the spectacle, the light is better in the morning on the Perry Point side and in Havre de Grace in the afternoon.
