We started out at the boat ramp at Asseteague Island. Birds there included, HORNED GREBE, great numbers of BRANT and BUFFLEHEAD, others included were BOTH LOONS, DUNLIN, SANDERLING, and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER. From there we went up to a couple ponds around Ocean Pines. They didn't look like they were going to stay free from total ice-over much longer. But none the less we did get good #s of CANVASBACKS, RING-NECK DUCKS and GADWALL. Other ducks include ,PINTAIL SHOVELER, BLACKS, MALLARDS, REDHEAD, GREEN-WING TEAL, and HOODED MERGS.. Parke John recomended trying Eagles Nest Camp Ground. WOW what a great recomendation! I felt as thou it was the month of may.Accept I was standing in 6 inches of snow with -10 wind chill, but we did find a ton of shore birds.GREATER-YELLOW LEGS, LESSER-YELLOW LEGS, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, DUNLIN, SANDERLING, BLACK-BELLED PLOVER, KILLDEER AND OYSTER-CATCHER. There really were great numbers of BRANT all over. In Ocean City we were again blessed with great looks at PURPLE SANDPIPER. We scanned the ocean for a while but it seemed as thou the birds we came for were out over the horizon. We did get, BOTH LOONS, BRANT, GREAT CORMORANT, DOUBLE- CRESTED, SANDERLING DUNLIN, TURNSTONE, SURF SCOTER, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, few BONAPARTE'S GULLS, and SAVANNAH SPARROW. We went north to Delaware. Indian river inlet was packed full of LONG-TAILED DUCKS, we also had 3 SPECIES OF SCOTER, BRANT, PURPLE SANDPIPER, BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON. Further north to Silver Lake we did get the TUFTED DUCK. It was easy! It was the darkest Duck there. I'm sure it helped that Spring lake was frozen over. Again north to finish the day, at Port Mahon road in Little Creek for the SHORT-EARED OWLS. Great way to finish off a long day. 82 species in all.
