Its open to the public and has GREAT food cheap. If that's not your style, there were several other restaurants off side roads a little past St. Mary's City. I'll be glad to give you directions next time you're through. Lookout Jan 18-19 Greetings: Lee and I spent Saturday and Sunday on Map 31 of the ADC St, Mary's County street atlas (basically south of Ridge), mainly Longneck Road and points south. We saw: common loon horned grebe double-crested cormorant great blue heron tundra swan mute swan Canada goose mallard canvasback (1 male sleeping in a flock of scaup at the causeway) lesser scaup harlequin duck (1 male with buffleheads at the end of Scotland Beach Road on Saturday am. Not resighted late in the afternoon.) oldsquaw/long-tailed duck (we are unreconstructed) black scoter surf scoter white-winged scoter common goldeneye bufflehead hooded merganser (2 pair at the end of Scotland Beach Road on Saturday am) red-breasted merganser ruddy duck (these were also at St. Mary's City, where we went looking for food since a college town always has a deli, right? WRONG) black vulture turkey vulture bald eagle northern harrier sharp-shinned hawk red-shouldered hawk (both days at the corner of Camp Brown Road, cooperative) red-tailed hawk American kestrel northern bobwhite (covey of 8 at the corner of Camp Brown Road) killdeer mystery sandpipers - western?, semi (probably not), dunlin? (One was color banded, so that may clear the matter up) ring-billed gull herring gull great black-backed gull unidentified tern mourning dove belted kingfisher red-bellied woodpecker downy woodpecker northern flicker horned lark blue jay American crow Carolina chickadee tufted titmouse brown-headed nuthatch (pines just before bridge on Cornfield Harbor Road) Carolina wren ruby-crowned kinglet eastern bluebird hermit thrush American robin northern mockingbird brown thrasher American pipit cedar waxwing European starling yellow-rumped warbler northern cardinal eastern towhee field sparrow fox sparrow song sparrow swamp sparrow white-throated sparrow white-crowned sparrow (up to 8 at a time on Camp Brown Road) dark-eyed junco red-winged blackbird eastern meadowlark common grackle brown-headed cowbird American goldfinch Thanks to previous posters who provided good location details (who I will try to emulate in future) for birding this area. Thanks to Sigrid Stiles for helpful traveler's hints, especially the Spinnakers recommendation (fruitti de mer in marinara and hazelnut torte!!) How serendipitous to run into her and Bill at the end of the day on Saturday, after 'meeting' on OSPREY.
