On my way to work, as I got in the car, I noticed a large hawk flying up to a branch from my feeders. I did my best commando imitation on way back into the house so as not to scare if off. I must admit on my way back in I thought, "Oh no, not another frustrating hawk identification experience." To my luck, and not the luck of my birds, the bird was an immature (1st year) Northern Goshawk. Distinguishable white speckled back, light supercilium, and buffy breast. Great way to start a morning - although I don't think my boss agrees (as I was over an hour late).
