As the sun came up, mist rose from the area of open water at the boat launch half hiding the hundreds of Canada Geese sleeping along the edge of the ice. Many of the geese had frost on their backs. Of interest were: Snow Goose 2 American Black Duck 1 Canvasback 4 Ring-necked Duck 3 Ruddy Duck 10 I estimate the Canada Geese at more than 3,000; Mallards about 200 and Ring-billed Gulls at 30. A Carolina Wren's call tells me that they have managed to survive the bitter cold so far.
