I did my usual five miles from Snyder's Landing to Taylor's Landing. In some ways this was the best count day ever- no trouble driving and just enough snow and cool enough to make it feel like winter as opposed to last year's spring day. Had my second highest species count (41) and highest individual total (729). Added Bufflehead to the 4 year composite list. The lower mile or so of the Potomac was mostly frozen so I didn't think I would have much luck with waterfowl , but the last three miles were open so I ended up with my normal assortment of ducks. However, Black Ducks were down about 50%. Common Mergansers were constantly flying up and down the river so my count of 48 may be high. On a down note juncoes were almost nonexistent. Since we seldom have reports from Washington County here is my complete list.
