Feb 1 (Sat) Day Trip with MOS Field Trip Leader Stan Arnold Our plans call for visiting Tanyard Marsh in Caroline County, then Hurlock WWTP, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and Shorter's Wharf Road, all in Dorchester County. Destinations may change depending on the most recent sighting reports but target birds include all waterfowl, Golden Eagle, Rough-legged Hawk, and Short-eared Owl. We'll meet at 6 a.m. at the Bay 50 Outlets on US 50, just prior to (west of) the Bay Bridge. Those joining us from the Eastern Shore should join us at 6:30 at the McDonalds on US 50 in Easton. If you have an FRS radio, have it tuned to Channel 5 for our morning rendezvous, and then we will pick a channel to use for the day. Bring lunch. If you've never had the pleasure, do yourself a favor and sign up for this one. Exact locations will depend on sightings in the days leading up to the 8th but we will be visiting sites in Queen Anne's and Caroline counties, plus some sites in central Delaware. We'll be searching for winter residents, but we will especially seek migrants, such as Tundra Swans, Snow Buntings, Horned Larks, Snow Geese and other migratory waterfowl. We will start on Kent Island looking for winter ducks, and work out way east into farm fields and forest edges. Meet at 8 AM at the Park and Ride off Rt. 50 at the Rt. 8 overpass. Bring your FRS radio if you have one, and we will pick a channel to use for the day.
