Hello All, Interesting morning, clear open water on the Bay side of the =
point but the river side still jammed with ice though it didn't seem as =
widespread as earlier. Birds were very active this morning both =
waterfowl and landbirds I will list just the abundant waterfowl and =
unusual landbirds.
Redhead
Ruddy Duck
White-winged Scoter
Black Scoter
Surf Scoter
Old Squaw ( I have a problem with the other name also)
Lesser Scaup   =20
Greater Scaup   =20
Canvasback
Bufflehead   =20
Black Duck
Mallard
Red-breasted Merganser
Hooded Merganser
Harlequin Duck   =20
Common Goldeneye
Canada Goose
Tundra Swan
Mute Swan
Horned Grebe
Great Cormorant
Double-crested Cormorant
Common Loon
Ring-billed Gull
Herring Gull
Bonapartes Gull
Gray Catbird (3rd sighting this month probably same bird)
Sanderling
Dunlin (5 flybys bayside near picnic area)
All of the above birds were seen on the bayside across from the entrance =
to the picnic area at Point Lookout State Park. This morning was the =
most waterfowl I've seen this fall/winter season concentrated in one =
spot. Many many birds were beyond my scope range and were just shapes in =
the shimmer. Still hoping to get Brown Pelican for the month of January =
but it does not look promising. If missed it will be the 1st time in 3 =
years I don't have a January record. Good Birding.
