There appears to = be 5 distinct flocks of mixed Ring-billed, Herring and Great Black-back = Gulls surrounding the Point and two other large flocks in nearby frozen = creeks. My birding skills for gulls leave alot to be be desired and I = didn't linger very long in the cold at any one flock but I didn't see = any unusual species. In the 7 flocks the total would be 10,000+ with the = largest concentration being off the point on both the riverside and = bayside. The birds when feeding appear to be chasing small baitfish and = I presume these are either Bay Anchovies or Gizzard Shad. Would the low = water temperature affect the speed of the baitfish? I don't recall = seeing Gulls use the technique they are using now to catch fish in the warmer water months.
