By the = end of the day, the group total reached 69 species, including splendid = views of lots of the birds. =20 Highlights: Clay-colored Sparrow - a life list bird for several of the people, = this bird found along Evans Road just as reported in an earlier posting Common Eider (female) at the OC Jetty 24+ Purple Sandpipers 12+ Bonaparte's Gulls One Male Harlequin (fly-by seen by only one of our group) Peregrine Falcon - wonderful views of a perched bird on the railing = of the green water tower near 12th Street Large numbers of Brant Several Great Cormorants along with the many Double-crested =20 Other very pleasing sightings: Strong incoming tide through the inlet carried several species for great = views by all the people - White-winged Scoter, Common Loon, and = Red-breasted Merganser. Red-throated Loons were readily viewed at the = east end of the Jetty. Several hundred Canvasbacks were in the pond along Racetrack Road, = along with three Ring-necked Ducks and a single Coot Many other duck species, including Black, Mallard, Shoveler, = Gadwall, Hooded Merganser, Greater Scaup, Surf Scoter, Pintail and = Bufflehead Other sparrows, including Song, White-throated, White-crowned and = Savannah. The trip was ably led by club president Wayne Bell, who even served = soup at his condo for our lunchtime break.
