On = our way, we birded several sites, surprising ourselves with a total of = 51 species in the quite chilly and rainy conditions. Highlights on Saturday: Along the Cambridge waterfront - 1 Wood Duck, 1 Red-head, 8 American = Wigeon, 2 Black Ducks, 4 Greater Scaup, several Common Goldeneye and = 100+ Canvasbacks Road toward Elliot's Island - 1 Rough-legged Hawk (light phase = adult), 1 Swamp Sparrow, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Killdeer, 2 pair of = closely perched Bald Eagles Ocean City - rain, Common Loons and Red-breasted Mergansers Indian River Inlet region - several Great Cormorants, one fly-by = female Harlequin Duck, three Pied-billed Grebes and a herd of Brants at = the marina grunting as they ate grass right beside the car - with a = sound that reminded us of the contented dulcit tones that one might hear = offered by the mother of a litter of nursing baby pigs.
