Bellrose (Stackpole, 1976) has a section on Canada Goose in which measurements are given for eleven different subspecies or races. Ranges are mapped for twelve specific populations; breeding range, migration corridor, and wintering area are described. Six races are illustrated with paintings. The author says that eight races "stand out" because of size or plumage or distribution: giant, western, Atlantic, interior, Vancouver, dusky, Aleutian, and cackling; "the most individualistic is probably the diminutive cackler," which has a smaller wing and bill than the Richarson's Canada Goose. I would be willing to loan you the book, if you wish. We could meet on a weekend somewhere between Eldersburg and Cabin John. The coverage in the field guides (Sibley included) tends to be rather scanty." ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
