On Monday-Wednesday of last week (1/27- 1/29) there were large flocks of robins (hundreds) moving through the area- foraging in holly trees and then sitting in leafless deciduous trees. Yesterday (2/2/03) there were also large numbers of robins at the National Arboretum, again feeding in holly trees. We counted over 150 in one area before moving on. Also of note, we saw a red-shouldered hawk and hermit thrush at the arboretum as well as a partially albinistic white-throated sparrow whose white throat extended up and around the eyes to the edge of the black superciliary. The yellow patch was still present on the lores and the crown and body plumage were similar to other white-throats. A very distinctive and beautiful plumage.
