That was a few years ago, and we'd often flush them off nests in the hayfields we played (and collected ticks)in. We would even find quail and would hear them all summer long. I don't think the farming practices in the area have really changed, but many of the farms are now houses. I lived in Keedysville in southern Washington County for several years and would still find or hear pheasant in that part of the county. And I currently live near Jefferson in Frederick County. There was a good sized covey of bob-white when I moved in, but they have nearly vanished over the past couple of years. This summer I heard a couple calling, but they never came into the yard. And I still hear the occassional pheasant crowing, but not often.
