Not sure if the birds are still surviving, though. I spoted a single female "green" pheasant along Rt. 9 in Delaware, south of Delaware city in 2002. It popped out of tall grass along the roadside for a few minutes. It drove me crazy because of the facial colors until I got digging in the NGS guide. The only Ring-necked I've seen in Maryland was one that ran across the road in front of my car in Prince Georges County in 1985. I heard one in 1986 in Baltimore County, but it was likely a "kept" bird.
