I can see many benefits of both...but what about the cons? Live mealworms are best. I tested the freeze dried ones and did not have any luck with anything eating them. The only cons are that mealworms are expensive. It is a joy to watch the birds eating them- and for me it's money well spent (better than a night out to the movies!!).
