We must have had between 200 and = 300 Common Grackles between our yard and our neighbor's. There was one = grackle that had two totally white tail feathers. The outer rectrix is = white, the next one is black and the next one is white. It's very striking = when it flies. Then, there was a Junco that had a tail that made it look like a Winter = Wren. It was a very peculiar thing. I don't know if the tail was stunted = or if the feather got caught by a predator and started to grow back (which = would seem contrary to molt progression). Anyway, very interesting birds! And, this morning, after shoveling out the driveway from where the snow = plow had buried, we went around filling feeders before heading off to = work. There was a Pine Warbler dining at the suet. It stayed there the = whole time despite our being only about 6 to 10 feet away from it. = Desperate times call for bolder birds.
