MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit MD Ospreyers, I think it is reasonable to believe at least one immature Peregrine is roving the edges of the Potomac from the fall line to just south of the Wilson Bridge for the last few months. A first year Peregrine has shown up at Dyke Marsh 3 times since about last October - I think Paula Sullivan got a decent picture during one visit. Before today, the last visit was the Jan 26. Additionally, there is at least one adult Peregrine near the river too, as Paul Pisano, Sherman Suter and others have noted a Peregrine (adult) many times on the trestle near the 14th bridge over the last several months. Although my information is limited (and I am sure others know much more) I can add that during the waterfowl census at the beginning of Dec, a Peregrine was recorded (age unknown) near Quantico (a bit far from Roosevelt Is. but still interesting). Lastly, I believe the DC CBC recorded a Peregrine (age and location were unspecified). Today, a Peregrine (looked nearly adult to me) straffed a couple of Lesser Scaup near the edge of the ice just off the marina at Dyke Marsh. A Herring Gull subsequently interacted with the bird - I got a couple of adequate photos of this encounter. These observations do cause me to wonder about the spring migration timing of Peregrines. As most of you know, Bald Eagles are about half way finished with their migration through our area and the locals are on nest. Is it possible that Peregrine migration timing is similar? Any thoughts out there?
