While visiting Assateague we watched a Blue Heron catch and eat what appeared to be a rat. It looked like it was the size of your average city rat but it was out in the marsh. the heron caught the rodent and tossed it up and caught it in the bill for an easier slide into the throat. Is this common? It really took us by surprise and provided our spouses with an interesting story to tell to those who would listen.
