Perhaps I can shed a little light on conditions. At home in Seaford, DE, we got only got 10" as the snow turned to rain late Sunday afternoon. The rain condensed the snow by half in my driveway. However, the rain/snow line was just north of us. Snowfall amounts quickly jumped to the 16-18" range north and west of Seaford. My carpool partner lives near Milford and he got 18" and still has at least 12" around. Cambridge had 18" (and the roof of the KFC collapsed). Areas south and east had less snow/more rain. I would guess that there is a lot more clear area in Worcester. The past 2 days and today have made the low 40's, so there is quite a bit of melting going on. This morning, there was even the occasional bare spot where the wind made the snow cover thin and the melt has broken through. The roads in Sussex County are in good shape with the only driving problem being possible re-freeze of the previous day's melt creating black ice. But pulling off the road is a completely different matter as you have to contend with the piles left by the snowplows. A couple suggestions for longspurs: Briar Hook Rd north of Seaford and Apple Tree Rd east of Bridgeville. Apple Tree is lightly traveled and you could get away with stopping on the road. Directions were posted recently on the DE list or respond to me off-list. Are the conditions OK for pulling over and birding? I have no idea how much snow the Eastern Shore of Maryland got. Any help would be appreciated.
