The rain didn't seem to affect the day's sighting too much. Started out on Hoopers Island visiblity was poor, there were several Dunlin standing out in the bay on slushy ice, a fair number of Horned Grebes, three Bobwhite and a Redhead. Near Madison we had a Red-shouldered Hawk, three Fox Sparrow, and a Brown-headed Nuthatch. Somewhere down county a flock of 20+ Turkey ran across the road. Taylor's Island was worth the drive, two Woodcock provided most excelent veiws along the road sides, one AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, another Bobwhite, and a nice male Black Scoter(county bird for both of us). A short stop at the Blackwater Visitor Center produced a PINE SISKIN. One 'Richardson's' Canada Goose and 9 Dunlin were along Egypt Road. Best bird of the day came in the form of a female BREWER'S BLACKBIRD along Pea Hill Road. I would recomend a four wheel drive vehicle, the road is dirt and has alot of deep mud and snow. The bird was with a mixed flock of blackbirds feeding along the road. A Wilson's Snipe ran along the road in front of the vehicle for a ways too. At Beulah Landfill there was a second winter ICELAND GULL. In Caroline County we saw two adult LESSER-BLACK BACKED GULLS at Tanyard. And in Talbot County, 6 'Richardson's' Canada's near Talbot County Landfill, a Brown Thrasher and a Cooper's Hawk(eating a fresh kill) along Manadier Road, another Brown Thrasher was feeding in a front yard with 2 Fox Sparrows near Trappe. On Thursday Jim saw a White-breasted nuthatch on White Marsh Road near Trappe as well.
