Date: Tue, 25 Feb 2003 20:20:50 -0500 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Chris Starling Subject: Cecil GWFG -Not likely Greetings: Today I took some time to look for the possible GWFG that I observed last Friday. the bird was easily found in front of Building 22H (on the grass near the parking lot). It was feeding with various Canda Geese. I am really leaning towards the fact that this bird is NOT a GWFG. Its overall "GISS" was less like that of a GWFG then I had observed last week. It is 100% the same goose as last week. This look was at Eye level (I had a birds eye view last week). This time I observed a very very slight belly that hangs down as in your typical Greylag varieties. Also the bird has a total absence of a white front around its bill and the barring on the chest/abdomen is all but completely abscent. Also the bill is very Orange and not at all yellow. The birds stature is somewhat larger then that typical of a GWFG also. It seemed to be equal in size to the canadas that were around and not all smaller. If anyone is around and gets a look at the bird, I would be greatly interested in your experianced opinions on the ID of this bird. Other then that the only other thing notable were Killdeer that were taking advantage of open ground above the Steam Pipes that run throughout the complex....
