We generally see our winter robins in areas like Hillendale, where there are a lot of mature plantings with berries such as hollies. And then flocks of 20 or so at a time. But this winter I am seeing huge overhead flocks (100s of birds together) crossing the Beltway and along Rt. 95 north, at first glance you think "blackbirds" and then realize, these are robins! And I have been seeing this all winter, not just recently. Yes, I think it is unusual for the areas I am discussing...
