Resting against a low wooden rail, "cooling our heels" took on new meaning. There was a flicker of motion in the sky, and we were both surprised to observe a bat flying around overhead. Great Horned Owl tape, and all. However, after looking through my one thin reference book on bats, it seems possible that the strange thing was not that a bat was flying was around in this weather at this time of year; but maybe, that we were there in this weather at this time of year to observe it!
