Actually I was curious to see how many Red-necked grebe I could find. Waterfowl in general seems to be waning with no large rafts of ducks being seen close to shore. However off shore there still remains hundreds of Tundra Swan on the flats (2-3 miles out). Also a medium size raft remains in front of Furnace Bay (too far for my Fieldscope III (20X-45X). Despite this I did manage to come up with 15 species including 9 RED-NECKED GREBE! and a Common Loon. The Loon was again found in front of the Patient's Fishing Pier at Building 22H. Below is the list of what I saw Today... Common Loon (1) RED-NECKED GREBE (9) Tundra Swan (100+/-) Mute Swan (6) Canada Goose (1000+ (in fields)) Mallard (25) American Black Duck (7) Americna Widgeaon (2) Gadwall (6) Canvasback (18) Ring-necked Duck (14) Bufflehead (36) Common Merganser (30) Red-breasted Merganser (1) American coot (43) Good Birding, Chris Starling North East, MD ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
