Many tree-planting events in my past experience often involved planting red pine, douglas fir, scots pine, and Norway spruce in areas where they were not part of the local flora. I imagine few if any of these are involved at Blackwater, but I hope the event sticks to loblolly and Virginia pine, willow oak, tulip tree, sweet gum and the like. It always struck me as droll that reforestation projects in Australia featured Monterrey cypress and pine whereas eucalyptus was preferred in California. I know the mind set that anything labeled a "wildflower" or "tree" is OK to plant whether native or not is slowly changing, but I've seen it at work too often to not be a bit cautious when I hear tell of planting events.
