Patterson Park, Calvert, 3/6/03 Comments: To: md-smas@yahoogroups.com Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline I went out again at lunch in my ever fruitless pursuit of Red-necked Grebe = for my Patterson list. There were good numbers of Horned Grebes on the = Patuxent along with both scaup, Common Goldeneyes, Long-tailed Ducks and = Buffleheads. Also out on the river were 10 Ring-necked Ducks. I don't = usually see them on the river, they're usually on the large pond on the = north edge of the park. At the large pond were 2 Greater Scaup (never seen them on the pond before = a few days ago), 9 more Ring-necked Ducks, 2 male Green-winged Teal, 3 = Hooded Mergansers, 9 Gadwall and 4 Wood Ducks. Finally, when I was about ready to throw in the towel, a Red-necked Grebe = came flying up the river headed toward a cove on the north side of the = park. The long neck and distinctive white patches on the wing were a dead = giveaway. Success! Tyler Bell bell@acnatsci.org California, Maryland Wave that flag...wave it wide and high!
