Starting at Bladensburg Marina, I hit the grebe trifecta, with 1 each of Red-necked, Horned, and Pied-billed. Also seen here were Common and Hooded Mergansers and 2 Red-shouldered Hawks perched together in the morning sun. There wasn't much to see at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and Brown Creeper being the best I could find. Things picked up a bit at the National Arboretum. The grove of state trees was hopping with robins and juncos. I briefly saw a Red-breasted Nuthatch on Hickey Hill. An Orange-crowned Warbler is still in the Asian Collection area, kindly pointed out to me by another birder. Kingman Lake around RFK Stadium had Common and Hooded Mergansers along with 1 Canvasback, but no grebes. At Anacostia Park, I saw 3 Red-necked Grebes. Around Hains Point, I saw 7 Red-necked Grebes in Washington Channel and 1 on the Potomac River. Seems the birds moved around some after Gail and Barry went through.
