The highlight in PG county was Redheads. At Piscataway. My final tally was 185, which is an almost tenfold increase in my high count for this area. Also of interest were 21 Red-breasted Mergansers picked out of a group of 200 or so Commons. Only one of the Red-breasteds was in a female-type plumage. But only (for this year) 8 Red-necked Grebes. Three just south of National Harbor and five at Piscataway. Also, two adult Bald Eagles on a nest. The nest overlooks the river from a small clump of trees that survived the destruction that harbingers both the new bridge and National Harbor. I was surprised to find them in such disturbed habitat and will keep an eye on them to see how they do.
