Area Comments: To: DE-Birds MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hello All, A few ducks remain in the area, but nothing like last week. On Saturday (3/8) there were 350 swan, a few Snow Geese, 2 Pintail and lots of gulls along Oak Grove Rd (MD). On Sunday (3/9), there were 8 Mallard, 4 Pintail, 3 Black Duck, 3 GW Teal and 65 swan in the puddles at the sharp turn in Kinder Rd where the huge masses were last week. Also one Black Vulture (first for the year) in the area. The highlight turned out to be gulls. There was a sizable flock of gulls feeding in the large fields on N. Oak Grove Rd (DE), south of Oak Grove. The vast majority were Ringers, but there were also 2 Herrings, 2 Laughers (early date for here) and a 3rd year Lesser Black Backed Gull (another new homelist bird - #168). I have now recorded 7 gull species here. I do not know of another inland, non-landfill, non-water site that can match that. If anyone else can, I would be interested in hearing about it. Beyond that, land birds simply stunk. Maybe it was the wind. The list of misses is too long with 0 woodpeckers of any kind, 0 titmice, 0 house finch, 0 cowbird, 1 dove, 1 bluebird, 2 Song Sparrows. The only things in abundance were robins and crows. > Good Birding, > Glen Lovelace III > Seaford, DE ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
