I've also had a lot of singing cardinals over the past week... On Saturday I went for a short walk at the Patuxent National Wildlife Refuge visitor center. I was hoping some of the Red Necked Grebes might have shown up at Cash Lake, but it wasn't to be...I did see many, many Ring-Necked Ducks. I think there were a couple of Gadwalls out there too, but they were too far away for me to get a really good look. >>>Note: Next paragraph contains semi-rant about non-bird-related subject...Proceed at your own risk.<<< [The place was also crawling with Boy Scout troops working on merit badges. I came across a group of Weebelos (sp???) who were trying to improve their snowball-throwing abilities using squirrels as targets; their leaders did nothing to stop this. I realize that they probably didn't hurt the squirrels, but I thought this showed a lack of respect for wildlife...Boys will be boys - but shouldn't they be taught that everything isn't necessarily there for their amusement?] Good birding!
