At 7:35 a.m., the female came flying in from downstream and lit on the platform. (I called to my wife to look out the window.) Within moments, the male arrived from the same direction, and lit beside the first bird. They stayed only a few moments, then flew off downstream, over the lightly frozen water, heading towards open water fishing sites. As they went, a bird from another nest site downstream was seen to join them. (This is 5 days earlier that the return of 'our' pair in 2002.) Later this morning, a glance out my computer room window caught a view of four Bald Eagles playing in an updraft (Three adults, One 2nd yr). Close to 1000 Canada Geese had spent last night on Leeds Creek, but surely most of them will be leaving soon. Thirty-two Cardinals still gathered for a lunchtime snack along my driveway, even though all but the last few small snow piles are gone.
