Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2003 22:56:56 EST Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Stephen Jones Subject: Re: DC sightings - March 14 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Also in DC today: At least 12 Red-Necked Grebes (6 in the Tidal Basin, 5 in the Washington Channel and 1 in the River between Memorial and 14th Street Bridges) 2 Pied-billed Grebes in the River near the Tidal Basin outlet A flock of DC Cormorants (20 plus) off Hains Point Red-breasted Mergansers in the Basin and the Channel AND (around 4:15 p.m.) an adult Red-tailed Hawk in the cherry trees on the 3rd Street side of the National Gallery East Wing. It flew right in front of me (a big looking bird when you see it up close!) to a perch about 30 feet back from the sidewalk.
