I also saw these same to pairs trying to build a nest in the same location in a cedar tree. Eventually one of the pairs won the location and the winners took the material and incorporated it into the nest they were working on. It was quite interesting to watch the grackles duel for the spot. It never got aggressive, just lots of feather fluffing while they all sang. A single bird from one pair would sing, then immediately following that song, the other half of the pair would sing as well. This was also immediately followed by a challenging song by the other pair, which would also sing in the same manner. It was quite interesting to watch. BTW The Spring Peepers are singing now and the turtles are out basking in the SWM pond.
