They were in the company of 3 COMMON LOON. Because of very strong NE winds, many birds came into the relative calm of the inlet, and we estimated at least 15 RED-THROATED LOON and 10+ COMMON LOON in all. Skimmer Island had 4 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER and a ball field near the bay at 4th St. had 50+ BRANT. The high winds forced shorebirds inside the inlet, and the rocks and shoreline near the Oceanic Motel had numerous RUDDY TURNSTONE and PURPLE SANDPIPER. Some of the Purples bathed in the rock pools right in front of us. A small flock of BONAPARTE'S GULL worked the outer inlet, and we saw just one FORSTER'S TERN. The West Ocean City Pond on Golf Course Rd. had 200+ CANVASBACK and numerous RUDDY DUCK and GADWALL. Mike and Joy Bowen Bethesda, MD, and Dewey Beach, DE D.H.
