I've been watching my favorite wet cow pasture on Boog Rd. now, for a week, looking for Wilson's Snipe. I stopped as usual this morning after dropping my son off at school. At first I saw only a Red Fox, who allowed me to watch it eat its breakfast. It took a little jaunt when I had to let the recycle truck go noisily by. The fox eyed the truck until it went around the curve, then ambled back to its meal. We were serenaded by many Red-winged Blackbirds, Robins, a Cardinal and some House Finches. I spotted a Killdeer out in the field and when I viewed it through my binocs, there were the Snipe!!! Three were present, and busy. Also present, overseeing all was a pair of Red-tailed Hawks, sitting in the tree of choice ( usually there is only one ). In the meantime, the Fox finished its breakfast and trotted almost up to my car before it crossed the road in front of me and headed across the next field. A nice start to the day! Sunny Spring to all!
