We had partially clear skies with bands of dark heavy cloud cover moving quickly eastward. Beautiful Cherry Blossoms! Highlights: In the distance, we saw about 160 CORMORANTS flying up the Potomac over 1.5 hours. 18 in the Basin. Also swimming in the Basin: 1 R-N GREBE, 1 HORNED GREBE in near perfect breeding plumage, 13 BUFFLEHEAD, 7 GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS. Flying: 2 CASPIAN TERNS and 2 N. ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS and a speck in the distance, a possible Kestral repeatedly hovering very high and far away. The dramatic skies (no rain or thunder thankfully), Cherry Blossoms and our first Spring sightings of CATE and NRWS made for a great time.
