This is an unusually early sighting for this species but it was fairly well described (cardinal-sized, slight reddish in throat, white stripe over eye, bit of streaking on the bird, different from all the other birds around). In other news, it sounds like Sligo Creek has sprung ahead in the race of the Yellow-crowned Night-herons to nest; I've had only one bird seen last Wed. the 26th and again Sat. the 29th, hanging around last year's nest but no actual nest maintenance observed and no second bird yet, just the two isolated sightings (none seen on the other days despite looking for them).
