HARRIER (a male) - new species for me in DC COOPER'S HAWK (an immature bird) RED-SHOULDERED HAWK RED-TAILED HAWK AMERICAN KESTREL Other than that, things were fairly quiet. About a dozen TREE SWALLOWS and a solo N. ROUGH-WINGED over the water. SAVANNAH and SWAMP SPARROW in the Park. FLICKER numbers have increased; I could hear them calling all over the place. Two pairs of WOOD DUCK. I checked the Fletcher's Boathouse area in NW DC on the way home, midday, and found 2 singing YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS but no Parulas. I was briefly tempted to stop near the Tidal Basin, but the crowds are building and the trees are beginning to look terrific. In past years the Tidal Basin has been an excellent place to see early swallows. But the traffic deterred me. Mike Bowen Bethesda, MD D.H.
