My non-birding companion said, "So that's what they're called! We saw some at the Tidal Basin on Monday and called them Dagwood birds because of the tufts on the head." The highlight of the walk was when an immature Bald Eagle flew over. Maybe it was visiting its parents at the Conn Island nest?
