Nevertheless, birding was quite good at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary,(Anne Arundel County). Highlights: I stopped counting Yellow-rumped Warblers after I reached 100! The paths were full of birds either on the ground or in the shrubs. I expected White-throats and Juncos but instead got Palm Warblers. They were everywhere and I counted close to 40. Definitely the most I've ever seen in one place. In smaller numbers but vocal were Pine Warblers, Yellow-throated Warblers and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. A single Louisiana Waterthrush chipped along Two-Run Creek. Both species of Yellowlegs dined in the mudflats accompanied by Wilson's Snipes and possibly some Short-billed Dowitchers (bad light and no scope). I didn't see a single Osprey platform that wasn't occupied. A male Osprey gallantly presented an incubating female with someone's prize goldfish. Tree and Barn Swallows were abundant along with Northern Rough-winged. I also wanted to mention that yesterday while enjoying the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin, a single Red-necked Grebe was seen quite near the Jefferson Memorial.
