The visit produced some recent arrivals such as BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, CASPIAN TERN, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, and (YELLOW) PALM WARBLER, and some other interesting finds. The tally: Ponds 4&5 (collectively the "big" pond at S. end of Halethorpe Farms Rd., Relay NE atlas block), SW Baltimore Co.: Pied-billed Grebe--1 DC Cormorant--50+ Great Blue Heron--10 GREAT EGRET--2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON--4 C. Goose-several GADWALL--25+ Mallard--several BUFFLEHEAD--pair BALD EAGLE--three adults flying over HERRING GULL--1 adult CASPIAN TERN--1 Mourning Dove Red-bellied Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker N. Flicker N. Mockingbird C. Chickadee T. Titmouse C. Wren Song Sparrow SWAMP SPARROW--1 White-throated Sparrow Dark-eyed Junco N. Cardinal Red-winged Blackbird Brown-headed Cowbird House Finch Am. Goldfinch Ponds 1, 2, and 3, in northern Anne Arundel Co., between Furnace Rd. & the Patapsco River, and including the River Rd. loop (Relay NW atlas block): Great Blue Heron--3 GREAT EGRET--1 Canada Goose Mallard OSPREY--1 Red-shouldered Hawk--1 calling HERRING GULL--1 (3d year) BARRED OWL--pair seen together (for first time; I've heard both before, but not seen both) B. Kingfisher--2 E. Phoebe--1, singing along RR tracks (by Pond #2) Blue Jay C. Chickadee T. Titmouse BROWN CREEPER--1 (Pond #2) GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET--1 along river Am. Robin Yellow-rumped Warbler YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER--1 singing (Pond #3) (YELLOW) PALM WARBLER--4 along RR tracks (by Pond #2) Chipping Sparrow (River Rd. loop) Field Sparrow (ditto) A productive outing, and enjoyable despite the occasional rain.
