Changing weather and changing birds today. There were 3 remaining SHOVELERS this morning that departed at 7:05 (observed by Emy H.). The 4 COMMON LOONS and 6 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS remained, joined by a single female BUFFLEHEAD. Two CASPIAN TERNS and 3 BONAPARTE'S GULLS flew over. My morning walk also produced a SWAMP SPARROW by the wood duck pond and a single HERMIT THRUSH.
An evening walk found the waterfowl relatively unchanged (ms. bufflehead had departed though).
Birds were absent and I made it around in near record time and decided to walk around again. To my delight a FORESTER'S TERN flew in and we intersected at the dam platform. The bird rested for a while was joined by a soggy TREE SWALLOW. Then the bird started to feed and worked back and forth along the dam for at least 30 minutes. It then settled onto a protruding stick along the shoreline.
