This action packed birding activity is on the Memorial Day Holiday weekend from Saturday May 24 through Monday May 26 and will be held in Potomac Maryland at the Bolger Center. So if you haven't registered yet why are you waiting? The conference planning Committee has planned a great weekend of birding and workshops for you, but time to register is running out with This year our Keynote Speaker is Kenn Kaufman who will also lead a Saturday afternoon workshop titled "Principles and Pitfalls of Bird Identification". Kenn will also hold a book signing after the keynote speech so don't forget to bring your copies of his books. Books will also be available at the Wildlife Authority his years birding supplies vendor. Other workshops include a Sparrow Identification workshop by Bonnie Ott. Who would have ever expected that? Linda Friedland has put together a superb schedule of field trips to the premier birding locations of the region. Her troop of top leaders are waiting to show you the birds of places they know like the back of their hands. Research Poster Session topics and participants include: 1) An edge effect at the landscape scale: reproductive consequences of commuting by Brown-headed Cowbirds by D.R. Curson and N. E. Mathews. Omland and Thomas W. Cronin, Department Biological Sciences, UMBC 3) Fifty-year Changes in Breeding Bird Populations on the Allegheny Plateau By Chandler S. Robbins and Barbara A. Dowell. The $40 registration fee includes the field trips, Kenn Kaufman's Keynote Speech and the collectors Conference Pin. You won't want to miss getting this years pin which is only available to registrants. It is a pileated woodpecker and I have received a few attempted bribes to get pins for people who aren't attending. Silent Auction and Raffle will go to the new Youth Birding Club of the Audubon Naturalist Society and Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. If you have not attended an MOS Conference before you don't know the fun you are missing. Birders bird with and meet new and old friends alike. Avoid the Memorial Day weekend traffic on the Shore and in the mountains and join the Local Coordinator Mike Bowen and the Montgomery, Howard and Patuxent Chapters of MOS for great weekend of birding events.
