Having made it home and consulted the experts, this appears to be a Red-throated Loon. I had not realized that this species can have such a sharp demarcation between the white throat and the nape. (At times it is quite embarrassing how little I seem to know about common species). So having been sure it wasn't a Common Loon and there being only one other choice, I decided I should try to get the word out. Bad move. Hope I didn't waste anyone's time. It is, however, a pretty good species for the location.
