Information and directions to this and other excellent local birding sites are on the Maryland Ornithological Society website at: http://www.mdbirds.org/ You may also want to get a copy of Where to Watch Birds in Montgomery Count= y -- the Audubon Naturalist Society bookstore at Woodend, Jones Bridge Rd., Chevy Chase (on Rock Creek Park) is a good source for this and other books of interest. I lived on Sligo Park for 20 years and one of the best areas there to look for spring migrants is the area north of University Blvd, where there is no road, but good paved trails. We do our May Count here and have had lots of good birds over the years, including Mourning and Golden-winged Warblers, Black-billed Cuckoo, etc. This area is described in the Montgomery County site guide. Another place worth checking is the series of ponds and wetland= s along Dennis Avenue -- go west from Sligo Creek Pkwy onto Dennis and park along it across from the ponds/wetlands site (a storm water control area); these are about 1/4 mile up from the park itself. You may want to think about attending the MOS Conference which will be held in Montgomery Co. over the Memorial Day weekend. There will be lots of fiel= d trips to regional areas for target species. For further information about the Conference, please contact Mike Callahan, State Coordinator, (301) 490-9318, raptorsrule@juno.com or Mike Bowen, Local Coordinator, (301) 334-4908, 530-5764, dhmbowen@yahoo.com.
