An adjoining wooded swamp area with a boardwalk trail into it off the riverside trail normally hosts 3-4 pair of Prothonotaries and we found one early bird there Saturday afternoon, singing and seen by 3 of the 5 observers. This site is in P. G. County about 10 miles south of D.C. We also heard, but didn't see, an early singing Eastern Wood-pewee there. Plenty of cormorants but no grebes on the Potomac.
