MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit A brief afternoon stop at the two big Halethorpe Ponds produced some interesting finds: a flotilla of 43 Double-crested Cormorants, 4 Gadwall, 2 Osprey, 2 adult Bald Eagles, a pair of Caspian Terns putting on a great close-up plunge-diving demonstration, Hairy Woodpecker, Gnatcatcher and 3 Parulas. The biggest surprise was the crowing of a cock Pheasant, heard twice in the strip of woods between the biggest pond and the Patapsco River. It's possible it was on the Anne Arundel side but it sounded very close. This is about 3 miles SW of Southwest Area Park in Lansdowne, the closest place I know of that they're still hanging on. Maybe they're a bit more widespread than we realize -- assuming this bird was wild.
